BEHAVIOR AND ACCOUNTABILITY OF L;AW MAKERS
Legislators are the one who writes and passes the laws. Lawmakers are the politicians elected by the people through election mandate. They are named as parliamentarians. Law making is an essential and sensitive task which entails the legislators a huge responsibility as people have had huge trust. As a representative of the people the lawmaker has dignity and must work for the betterment of the people.
Accountability of law makers
- They must be accountable towards voters and electors.
- They must be accountable towards the respective party he/she belongs to(if any).
- They must be accountable towards the parliament and committee of the parliament that one belongs to.
- They have to be accountable towards the constitution and other laws of the nation.
- They have to be accountable towards the interest of the state.
Expected behavior of the lawmakers
- They must have friendly behavior towards general people as they are the elected representative of the people.
- They should not have personal interest in law making.
- They should work as a facilitator in order to address the directive principles and politico manifesto of the nation.
- They should supervise the developmental works.
- They should maintain good governance.
- They must abide by the constitution.
- They should respect the rule of law.
- They should abide by the democratic norms and work to strengthen such democratic norms as well.
- Their behavior should be in a way of reflecting the motivation to people for their involvement and participation.
